Where to Host Small Events

and Find Real Relaxation in

York (Finally)

Finding a spot in York where you can truly unwind - whether you're planning a small celebration or need to reset after months of stress - used to mean compromising. City centre locations meant noise and crowds. Quiet spots meant driving across town.

That's changed.

The York Wellness Revolution Happening at Hedley House

Last month, a group of friends from Leeds wanted somewhere to celebrate a 30th birthday. Not another crowded bar or restaurant where they'd shout over music. They wanted space to actually talk, relax, and feel properly looked after.

They booked our sauna and hot tub exclusively for two hours at £45 per person. Added a garden BBQ. Spent the afternoon moving between hot sauna sessions and cold plunges, then soaking in bubbles while their food grilled nearby.

"Best birthday celebration I've ever organised," she texted later. "Felt like we had our own private spa."

That's exactly what we're creating here.

Wellness That Works for Everyone (Not Just Hotel Guests)

Here's what most people don't realise - our wellness facilities aren't just for guests staying overnight. We welcome locals, day visitors, and anyone who needs proper space to relax in York.

For Quick Reset Sessions:

  • Sauna and cold plunge: £15 per person for one hour
  • Hot tub session: £15 per person for one hour
  • Both together: £20 per person

For Longer Wellness Experiences:

  • Exclusive 2-hour hire of sauna and hot tub: £45 per person
  • Private events in our garden with BBQ facilities (pricing on request)

The Reality Check: Our sauna fits up to 3 friends comfortably, though we limit bookings to 2 strangers maximum (it's a cosy space). The cold plunge takes courage - most people spend 30 seconds maximum their first attempt.

Why York Needed This Space

After 29 years watching guests arrive stressed and leave recharged, we noticed something. People weren't just seeking accommodation - they wanted experiences that actually restored them.

The city offers plenty of historical tours and shopping. But where do you go when you need to properly decompress? When you want to celebrate something meaningful without the chaos of city centre venues?

That's the gap we're filling.

Beyond the Obvious: What Makes This Different

Massage Treatments Our two treatment rooms offer everything from deep tissue work to Indian head massage. Book 48 hours ahead - our experienced therapists get booked up quickly.

Hot Yoga Studio Classes for beginners through experts, plus sound baths and reiki sessions. The studio stays warm year-round, perfect for those January sessions when motivation's low.

Expanded Gym 30% bigger this year with 24-hour keycode access for guests. Proper equipment, actual space to move.

New for 2026: Sauna & Cold Plunge 2-3 person sauna available 9am-9pm daily. The cold plunge definitely separates the committed from the curious. Book at least one hour in advance.

Events That Actually Matter

Small celebrations deserve better than generic function rooms. Our garden accommodates intimate groups who want:

  • Birthday celebrations away from crowds
  • Corporate wellness sessions
  • Weekend retreats for friends
  • Anniversary celebrations with meaning

We handle the logistics. You focus on connecting with the people who matter.

The Practical Stuff You Need to Know

Location: 6 minutes walk from York Railway Station, 10 minutes to city centre. Step-free access throughout.

Booking: Direct through the hotel for all wellness facilities. Call 07428 917515 or email greg@hedleyhouse.com for event pricing.

What's Included: Robes and extra towels for sauna/hot tub sessions.

Parking: Secure off-street parking available (rare in York).

Who This Works Best For

This isn't about perfection or Instagram moments. It's about creating space for authentic relaxation and connection.

Works brilliantly for:

  • Groups celebrating milestones meaningfully
  • Anyone needing proper stress relief in York
  • Visitors wanting wellness alongside city exploration
  • Locals seeking accessible relaxation without travelling far

Doesn't work if you're seeking luxury spa experiences or formal event venues.

Getting Started

Want to test the waters? Book a single hour session for £15-20. Ready for something more substantial? Consider the exclusive 2-hour hire or speak to us about garden events.

The sauna gets busy - especially winter weekends when York residents discover the cold plunge challenge. Book ahead.

None of this matters if you're happy with York's existing wellness options. But if you've been searching for somewhere that combines city convenience with genuine relaxation space, this might be exactly what you need.

Staying in York This Summer? Here's What to Look For in a Hotel Most people booking a York break think about location first. Then parking. Then breakfast. And if you're travelling with the dog, or driving an electric car, the checklist gets longer still. At Hedley House, we've thought about all of it - so you don't have to. Getting Here (and Getting Around) York Railway Station is a 6 to 7 minute walk from our front door, all on level ground with no steps to navigate. If you're arriving by train, you're unpacking within minutes. Driving? We have secure, off-street parking on site - which, if you've ever tried to park in York city centre, you'll know is genuinely rare. No hunting for street permits. No circling the streets. Just pull in and relax. Electric vehicle? We have two dedicated EV charging points, available at £20 per night. Book ahead and we'll make sure one's ready for you. Add it on ... We serve a hearty Yorkshire breakfast and you can add it to your stay when you book. Some guests like to head out early and grab something in the city - others want a proper sit-down start before a full day of exploring. Either way, the option is there. Your Room Every room at Hedley House is ensuite. We also have two air-conditioned deluxe rooms for those warm summer nights - with more being fitted this year. If you'd like one of those, just mention it when you book. Need more independence? Our self-catering apartments give you your own space with the added comfort of everything the hotel has to offer on your doorstep. Bringing the Dog? We have three dedicated dog-friendly rooms, so booking early is essential - they go quickly. One dog per room, and we ask that your dog isn't left alone in the room at any time or on the hotel beds. Other than that, they're very welcome. Your four-legged companion can even join you in the bar for a drink at the end of the day. Just call us to book - 07428 917515 - and we'll get you into the right room. Wind Down After a Day Out York on foot is one of the great city experiences. After a full day of it, our wellness facilities are waiting. Great for families. Art lovers might want to head slightly further afield - North Yorkshire Open Studios is staging a major exhibition at Ampleforth Abbey from 11 to 19 July, with more than 60 artists exhibiting in a stunning Grade I-listed setting.
